For our second day of shooting Victor asked for an "authentic African look" and what could be more African than a Zulu outfit? We shot this in the beautiful Walter Sisulu Botanical gardens in Roodepoort. This amazing gem is tucked away in the middle of a bustling residential area and we go there often for breakfast or to hike around the gardens. It was a Sunday morning, so there were quite a couple of people wandering around and we confused quite a few of them with all of the stands, equipment and... well... half-naked model. *grin*
The lighting for this was quite a challenge. It was after 9 in the morning and the sun was rising quickly, so I needed a LOT of power from the flashes to overpower it. Unfortunately I reached a point were that became almost impossible, so I "had" to shoot with the available light. That's a huge deal for me because I like to be in control of my lighting!
I ended up shooting at angles into the sun and using a bare Canon Speedlite 580EX II flash as fill light. I have to admit that I'm glad it happened, because I learned some new tricks and I'm very happy with the results!
Take care,
j.

I always seem to say that "model x and I have been meaning to shoot together for ages" and it's the same thing with Ryan. Work has been keeping me so busy that I don't really have much time for shoots, so it took Ryan and I a while to get a date for the shoot. He wanted some new shots for his portfolio, ranging from fashion to fitness and we managed to get that and more!
I hope you guys like the pics!

Apparently it has been over a year since I photographed a female model. I know, I was just as shocked...
The shoot with Jade reminded me why I enjoy photographing females - it's pretty! From the long blue lashes that Stavvie put on to the outfits Jade wore - it's all girly and... well, if there was ever a question about my sexuality, that should put it to rest. :)
Jade is gorgeous and I've wanted to photograph an Asian female for YEARS! That's about how long Jade and I also took to get to shoot together! She's studying and with my work schedule

Wayne and I talked about working together for, quite literally, months. Last year was quite a rough one for me, so I didn't get time to do a lot of shoots. Thankfully we managed to find some time to work together and we got some really awesome shots!
He is a singer and also runs/owns a recording studio and is a hell of a nice guy! I had SO much fun working with him and our shoot reminded me why I love photography so much - I get to meet so many great and interesting people during my shoots and he was no exception - he was a laugh a minute!

I might have mentioned a couple of times before that, if I ever became a professional photographer, I'd like to photograph people from the music industry. Because I am a music lover and a wannabe guitar player and singer, I think I identify with musicians. That and they're pretty crazy people most of the time - another thing that we'd have in common!
The guys from Saving Silence were definitely just that - crazy and lots of fun to work with! I had such a great time photographing them that an hour and 210 photographs had passed before I
